Drywall Types For Interior Spaces
We select drywall based on the conditions in each area:
- Standard 1/2-inch panels: Suitable for most living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, and offices.
- Moisture-resistant panels: Appropriate for bathrooms, laundry rooms, and other areas with occasional humidity. They do not replace waterproof backing in wet shower enclosures.
- Type X fire-resistant drywall: Used where local code or the building design requires a rated wall or ceiling assembly. The required thickness and fastening pattern depend on the approved assembly.
- Sound-control assemblies: Combine specific panel types, insulation, sealants, and framing methods to reduce sound transfer between rooms.
We also plan panel orientation, joint placement, corner treatment, and access openings before installation. For remodels, we inspect the framing and address uneven studs, damaged insulation, plumbing access, or electrical conflicts before hanging panels. This preparation supports smoother seams, cleaner corners, and fewer delays.
